Online Trading Card Games
An online Trading Card Game is based on the concept of mastering decks by collecting digital cards. Cards can be earned through trading, playing games, participating in contests and more. This TCG is based on the Harry Potter books/movies.
Hogwarts
By being based on Harry Potter, Hogwarts is set up in a way to "mirror" Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in that members are students and go through the gist of what a wizard/witch would at Hogwarts in addition to other school activities. It shouldn't be too difficult to follow but if in doubt just ask!
Rules
These are the general rules of Hogwarts and upon joining you are acknowledging you have read them.
1. You must have a valid e-mail address and website with a trade post for
Hogwarts.
2. Choose a name that isn't too crazy. HPFan8625 is pushing it.
3. Do not direct link any graphics from this site. If you are in need of a place
to host your images, Photobucket is a solution.
4. Don't cheat. Chances are if you think what you're doing is cheating it
probably is. Such instances are: taking cards when you're not supposed to,
refreshing the rewards page, etc.
5. Be nice to the other members. Whether it's a difference in opinion or that
they wish not to trade with you please be nice and respectful.
6. In the message section of the join form if you place "never tickle a
sleeping dragon" you will earn an
extra card in your starter pack.
7. Whether you're trading cards, earning cards or whatever, make sure you record
how each card got to be on your trade post.
8. Have fun :)
The Sorting Hat will ask you what House you wish to be in (as well as a second choice) however you may not always get to be in the House of your choice (this is only relevant if some of the Houses lack students). Maybe in the future I will set up an actual quiz.
Trade Posts
Trade posts are where you display your cards, items, accomplishments and so forth that are relevant to this TCG. They are required in order to play and must be visible to the public. In general your trade post for Hogwarts should contain:
- A level badge and a link back.
- Total card worth (card count is optional because your level is based on worth).
- Separate sections that show what cards you are collecting, trading, etc.
- A detailed trade log with dates and descriptions as to how cards were earned. Vague descriptions are not permitted.
Joining
Once you have filled out the join form you will receive your letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry within a week. If a week has passed and you have not received your letter, please make sure you check your junk/spam box first before you resubmit your join form.
When you receive your letter and starter pack it means you are officially a student and may participate in the games/activities. You must e-mail me back to let me know that your starter pack is up. Make sure everything is up within two weeks of joining.
Starter Pack
Your starter pack contains 2 cards from the deck you chose as your favorite in addition to 3 random cards.
Earning Cards
There are many ways for you to earn cards (and other items) from the following (not limited to):
- Playing games
- Referring new members
- Participating in contests
- Leveling up
- Mastering decks
- Donating graphics
- Birthday
- Freebies
- Winning the House Cup
Level Up
When you level up you must have in the time you submit your form, the correct amount of cards for the level as well as the stated requirements completed. There can be no cards or requirements coming in from pending trades, etc.
If you have the correct amount of cards and in some cases, items you may then level up by submitting a from. For leveling up you will receive 2 choice normal cards and 2 random normal cards.
Each time you enter a new Year (ie. First Year, Second Year, Fourth Year, etc) you are to, in addition to submitting the level up form, click on Platform 9¾ then click on the link corresponding to your new level.
Deck Mastery
If you have collected all cards pertaining to a deck (meaning no pending trades) you may submit the form. The cards of the deck can no longer be traded. For mastering a deck you will receive 1 choice normal card and 2 random normal cards.
Currency
The currency is in the form of Knuts, Sickles and Galleons. To make things less complicated there is a fixed exchange rate (it differs from the actual currency worth to make things easier for everyone).
for display only, please do not take
5 sickles = 1 galleon
10 knuts = 1 sickle
Coupons
There are a few types of coupons that you can redeem for cards. Each coupon allows you to drink one potion that will give you only one of the types of cards listed on it. Coupons are earned only through contests and/or special activities.
You may not use coupons to receive the last two cards needed to master a deck.
You can create coupons through potions class but there are restrictions -- please refer to the Potions area of the activities section.
Magic EXP/House Points
Your Magic EXP (experience points) are derived only from masteries, level ups, trade amount (contests, etc). To make things simple your Magic EXP will be the same as the House Points you earn for the month. Magic EXP count towards spell casting AND House Points. While the House Points will reset for the next month, you will keep your Magic EXP because of spell casting.
Spell Casting "Swish & Flick"
The spells you are able to cast are dependent on your level and magic exp. You will be given opportunities to collect/earn
different elements to make up a spell. Thus, wand movement is not the only element of casting a spell. You will also
need corresponding spell books to be able to cast spells (different spells can be found in different books). And each
spell may require you to not only have the wand movements but other items.
For "advanced" students you will be able to cast "advanced" spells earlier than other students (ie. if you are a first
master). You will gain "experience points" that work towards the spells you can cast through levels, trades and masteries.

Potion Making
The potions you are able to create, like spell casting, depends on your level as well as collecting/earning other
elements.
Some potions have restrictions such as the amount of times it may be used (shelf-life) or how long it will take to make.
You will also only be allowed to create a certain number of potions (meaning if you wish to make more you will either have
to use the potion(s) or pour them out.
Once you have all of the ingredients of the potion you must turn it to "receive" the potion. You will not get your empty
phial back until you use the potion.

Chocolate Frog Cards
There a number of Chocolate Frog cards for the various characters from Harry
Potter. This works as a themed/special masters activity and is completely
optional on whether you want to collect them or not. The pixel variety is
rare and harder to get. To obtain a card you must have a Chocolate Frog and
turn it in (or have been a prejoiner).
for display only, please do not take
Random Events
Random events are...well, completely random! Most will be unannounced or information
will not be readily available. Most will be obvious that it is a random event (not an error/mistake
on my part ;] ) like if you see a pixel owl somewhere be sure to click on it and read what the message
says!

for display only, please do not take
Marauder's Map
The plan is to have certain games available for advanced traders and once you have become one you will get the Marauder's Map to
give you access to otherwise..."locked" places. At least that's the plan for now ;)

for display only, please do not take
My Participation
I do not participate at this moment!
